producing a Neighbourhood Plan for the rural area of Hartlepool Borough
Hartlepool Rural Neighbourhood Plan (includes Greatham)
Greatham Parish Council in partnership with Hart, Elwick and Dalton Piercy Parish Councils and Newton Bewley Parish Meeting have produced a Neighbourhood Plan for the rural area of Hartlepool Borough – Hartlepool Rural Neighbourhood Plan. This was ‘MADE’ (it became a full, valid planning document) in December 2018, and is intended to guide planning for 15 years.
Neighbourhood Planning is a way for communities to have their say on the future of the place where they live and work, introduced as part of the Localism Act 2011. The Parish Councils feel it is important that the voices of those living and working in the rural communities are heard. To this end major consultations were undertaken with residents, businesses and other interested parties in May/June 2012 (follow up with a survey in October 2012), September/October 2014, May/July 2015 (including a housing needs survey) and February to April 2017 (this final consultation being conducted by Hartlepool Borough Council). Countless volunteer hours were spent over 6 years to produce a Neighbourhood Plan reflective of the wishes and desires of the rural communities. It was approved by electors of the rural area in a referendum held in October 2018.
